Standards & Policies

Our program is well-known and respected by Design professionals for its rigor. In order to prepare students for success in very competitive and rewarding professions in Design, we maintain high academic and professional standards, which are outlined on the left side of this page.

In order to maximize the value of their education and meaningfully grow as budding designers, students need to engage with their coursework with a serious and proactive attitude. Students should expect to work hard for the sake of personal, artistic, and professional growth, and should be ready to go above and beyond what is asked of them.

In tandem with resources and support services at the university level, our department works to intentionally support our students in their pursuit of these standards. That said, students should be mindful that they are ultimately responsible for seeking support when needed and are responsible for the consequences of their actions should they fail to meet the standards of our program.

Prospective Design students should direct questions to our Outreach Coordinator.

Current KU Design students should direct questions to our academic advisor.
