Student Ambassadors

Design Student Ambassadors share their experiences with prospective students and families. Ambassadors assist with visits and tours for guests of the Department of Design. Ambassadors work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to provide a welcoming and informative experience for our guests and incoming freshmen students.

Student Ambassador, Industrial Design

Hometown: Roselle, Illinois

Why did you choose KU?

I chose KU because of the meaningful interactions I had when coming to campus and our beautiful campus in general. I also felt very engaged in our design program and how proud everyone seemed to be showing it off.

What led to your interest in design?

I had always been a creative thinker and problem solver and initially thought I would be an engineer. After giving it a second thought I translated those skills to a different career path and quickly found my passion for design.

What advice do you have for prospective students?

If choosing design, time management is key and make sure you are happy with your work before anyone else. Also stop and smell the roses every once in a while - college is fun!

Student Ambassador, Visual Communication Design

Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska

Why did you choose KU?

The campus and facilities are great, there are so many different resources available for any area of study. The small classroom sizes in the school are also a great aspect, as it allows for you to be able to create more personal relationships with your professors.

What led to your interest in design?

I’ve always enjoyed doing creative work and I’ve always liked the wide variety of options design has. I also admire how powerful and effective design can be and hope to contribute to that as well.

What advice do you have for prospective students?

Learning how to work with people can be challenging, but don’t forget to take time and create good relationships with your classmates. It’s always nice to get a different perspective on your work and it’s a great way to start building your network.
